PhD student Kelvin Smith, who is advised by Martha Grover and Charlie Liotta, won an Alfred P. Sloan Minority Graduate Scholarship. This $40,000 scholarship was established by the Sloan Foundation in 1995 to assist efforts to diversify the U.S. PhD degree-holding workforce by increasing the recruitment, retention, and graduation of underrepresented minority doctoral students in STEM.
